Age of Empires Definitive Edition Now Released

Age of Empires Definitive Edition has been released (as of 20th February 2018) and is now available on the Microsoft Store.

After twenty years, the original Age of Empires game which started a famous critically acclaimed franchise is back. Featuring all new 4K UHD graphics Age of Empires Definitive Edition certainly looks better than it did before. But it doesn’t stop there. Not only have they recreated the visuals and animations, they’ve also remastered the sound and music. On top of this, you can interact with a better and smoother user interface which was apparently completely rebuilt. Another cool little feature they’ve also added, common to many modern strategy games is zoom levels. So, you can now zoom either closer or further out, which can be quite handy.

Including the original game and the Rise of Rome expansion, players can experience updated campaign content with new narration. If you’re interested in competing against others, then you can make use of the game’s new multiplayer support, and engage in battles with up to 8 players with new competitive features and modes.

Age of Empires Definitive Edition trailer

It’s really great to see the original Age of Empires game remastered. Though, it’s a shame that the AI was not upgraded, at least to Age of Empires 2 standards. I know that wouldn’t exactly be staying true to the original game, but personally I think that would’ve been a good addition. Nonetheless, the graphics look fantastic and the remastered sounds and music sound great.
