The Color Purple (2023) – Official trailer, release date, synopsis and cast

An official trailer has been released for the movie The Color Purple.

Directed by Blitz Bazawule, the new musical drama is produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones and is based on the 1982 novel by Alice Walker, as well as the 2004 musical stage play adaptation written by Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Stephen Bray, Brenda Russell and Alee Willis.

Spielberg previously directed and produced a movie adaptation, three years after the book’s publication starring Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Laurence Fishburne.

According to the new film’s official synopsis — A musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the south during the early 1900s.

The Color Purple stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Fantasia Barrino.

It is scheduled to be released in theaters in North America on December 25th, 2023 and internationally beginning January 18th, 2024.
